How many parks can you vote for?

You may vote for 1 park per country per day in as many countries you would like.

The National Parks Association recommends voting for your favorite national park daily.

How long does the voting campaign last?

The voting campaign is divided into three phases with the final winners being declared June 11, 2028.

Phase 1 features voting to determine the best national parks within each country.  Phase 1 will conclude on March 18th, 2026.  Phase 1 winners will advance to the Phase 2 voting competition.

Phase 2 features the most voted for national parks in each country from Phase 1. During this phase, the countries are competing to determine the best national parks from each continent.  Phase 2 runs from March 19th, 2026 through March 18th, 2027.  The winners from each continent will advance to the third and final phase of the voting competition.

Phase 3 will take the most voted for national parks from each continent to identity the 10 best national parks in the world. Phase 3 will run from March 2027 through May 31, 2028 with the winners declared June 11, 2028.

Vote Now to insure your favorite national park advances to Phase 2!

What is Phase 1 of the campaign?

Phase 1 runs through March 18, 2026.  During this timeframe, you are voting to determine the best national park in any given country.  Vote now to determine the best national parks in your country.

Phase 1 will determine which national parks are eligible to continue into Phase 2.  A national park must reach at least 1,000 votes to be eligible to continue to Phase 2.

Reaching 1,000 votes does not guarantee participation.  The parks with the most votes will advance.

What about Missing Parks?

It is quite possible that the Association has missed a national park.  If you have a favorite national park that is not included, please reach out to us through the Contact Us page.

We will get your national park added and available for voting promptly.

If you are a Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Environment, or National Park management, there are no fees to enhance your park’s presentation on the Association’s website.  Reach out to us through the Contact Us page.

What are the Costs to Participate?

There are no costs to vote.  There are no costs for country or national park inclusion.

There are no sponsorship fees.  Any national park has equal opportunities.

If you are a Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Environment, or National Park management, there are no fees to enhance your park’s presentation on the Association’s website.  Reach out to us through the Contact Us page.

What is the purpose of the campaign?

The purpose of the campaign is to create awareness of the world’s national parks and the awe and wonder and resources they protect.

National Parks are created for various reasons and it is important that we understand why each exists.  We hope that through this campaign, you will learn about the natural splendor each country features in their national parks.

Additionally, when people look to explore the natural beauty of this world, this campaign will help identify the best nature offered within each country and the coveted nature destinations around the world.

But more importantly, we hope that through this campaign you discover the wonderful world of national parks and why we must take steps to invest in them and protect the natural resources and natural wonders they protect.

What constitutes a national park?

There are many different types of protected areas established by governments around the world.

The focus on this campaign is on protected areas that are officially named “national park.” Nature reserves, conservation areas, sanctuaries, and similar are excluded from the campaign.  They can be a “national park” and a “nature reserve,” but they must be a national park.

This does not diminish the importance of these other types of protected areas.  For example, one of my most favorite places on earth is Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area.

National Historic Sites are not eligible either.  This becomes challenging because some countries do not distinguish between nature and history in the declaration of their national parks.

The NPA seeks to honor a country’s declaration when naming national parks.

How many national parks from a country may advance to phase 2?

The number of national parks that will move on from each country depends on a few factors.  The first factor is the number of national parks each country has.

The potential number of eligible national parks from each country is broken down below:

  • 5 or fewer national parks:  Up to 1 national park
  • 6 to 10 national parks:  Up to 2 national parks
  • 11 to 20 national parks: Up to 3 national parks
  • 21 to 40 national parks:  Up to 4 national parks
  • 41 to 60 national parks: Up to 5 national parks
  • Over 60 national parks:  Up to 6 national parks

Being the most popular national park in a country does not automatically include the national park in Phase 2 voting.  The national park must meet the voting threshold by the end of the voting period during Phase 1.
