Abisko Overview

Abisko National Park, situated in the Swedish Lapland above the Arctic Circle, is a pristine natural gem renowned for its unique Arctic landscapes and exceptional natural beauty. Established in 1909, the park covers an area of approximately 77 square kilometers (about 30 square miles), making it one of Sweden’s oldest and most celebrated national parks. Kungsleden (The King's Trail) Section

It’s a perfect day hike or the first leg of a longer journey on the Kungsleden, offering encounters with Arctic flora and possibly wildlife.

Njullá Mountain Trail

Rating: Moderate

Distance and Elevation Gain: 3 miles (5 km) round trip, with an elevation gain of about 1,148 feet (350 meters)

Description: Offering panoramic views of the Lapporten Valley and Torneträsk Lake, this trail ascends Njullá mountain and is known for its incredible vistas.

The climb is steep but rewarding, with a well-marked path leading to a café at the top during summer, where hikers can enjoy a well-deserved rest and a stunning view.

Aurora Sky Station Trail

Distance and Elevation Gain: 2 miles (3.2 km) round trip, with minimal elevation gain

Description: This trail offers a leisurely walk from the Abisko Tourist Station to the Aurora Sky Station, ideal for those hoping to catch the Northern Lights or enjoy the Midnight Sun.

The path is gentle and accessible, making it perfect for all ages and fitness levels. The Sky Station itself provides unparalleled views of the surrounding landscapes.

Lapporten Valley Viewpoint

Distance and Elevation Gain: 1 mile (1.6 km) round trip, with an elevation gain of about 100 feet (30 meters)

Description: A short and accessible trail leading to a viewpoint offering one of the best views of the Lapporten Valley, known as the gateway to the Swedish Lapland.

The easy walk is suitable for families and provides a quick yet memorable experience of Abisko’s stunning natural beauty, making it a popular choice for visitors with limited time.
